Varkala is situated on the coast, near Trivandrum; it is the only place in Kerala where one finds a range of cliffs next to the sea. It is also famous for its temples and called Kashi of the South. It has some of the most pristine beaches where tourists can relax. Places of interest are Varkala beach, Janardhana Swami Temple, Kappil Lake. Papasnanam Beach, Sivagiri Mutt, and Varkala Light House. It is easy to reach by air, rail or road; the nearest railway station is Varkala Sivagiri Railway Station and nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport. A number of buses ply from other cities to Varkala, as well. The Gateway Hote Janardhanapuram, Hindustan Beach Retreat and Vedanta Wake Up are some of the hotels situated in and around Varkala. A couple of good eateries are the Juice Shack, Little Tibet, ABBA Restaurant and Everest German Bakery.
