Trichur or Thrissur is also known as the Temple Town because some of the most important temples are situated in and around the city. Most of these temples display Dravidian style of architecture. Some of the churches are also built in Gothic style. Places of interest are, Vadakkunnathan Temple, Shakthan Thampuran Palace, Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple, St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Thrissur Zoo, and Poonkunnam Siva Temple. Trichur is connected to the rest of the country and world by air, rail and road. The nearest airport is situated at Kochi, 56 km away; however, the city gets regular train service and the three important railheads are Thrissur, Thrissur Punkumnam and Divine Nagar. There is a regular bus service from the other cities and it has good network of road system. Trichur Towers, Niya Regency and Hotel Pooram International are three good hotels situated in Trichur, while some of the well known restaurants are Copper Spoon, Indian Wok and Pepper Restaurant.
