Madurai is a temple town, famous for its temples; pilgrims from many corners of the country visit these temples. Interestingly, all temples display a unique Dravidian style of architecture, porches or Mantapas, gate pyramids (Gopuras) and pillared halls. The tourists can start their site seeing with the Meenakshi Temple, which is the biggest temple in Madurati, some places of interest are Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal, Koodal Azhagar Temple, Vandiyur Mariamman Temple, Alagar Koyil, Thirupparamkunram Murugan Temple, Gandhi Memorial Museum, Athisyam, banana and vegetable markets, bamboo bazaar. Madurai is well connected by air, rail and road. It has Madurai Airport and Madurai Rail Junction, as well as road connections to other principal cities in the area. Some of the well known hotels are the Metropole, Star Residency and Royal Court, and a long list of good restaurants such as, Chopstix Multicuisine Restuarant and Murugan Idli Shop.
